National Playground Safety Week- April 21-25

Parks & Playground Safety Tips 

 

 

· Playgrounds are constructed for children by age; under 5 and Ages 5-12. Use appropriate age playgrounds for your child. 

· Please use playgrounds the way they were designed. Do not climb on top of slides or monkey bars.

· Parents– Watch your children.  Watch your surroundings and call the police if you see suspicious activity at the park.  Unfortunately in this day and age, some park patrons can not be trusted.

 

 

· Due to health Concerns please keep dogs and other pets out of the shelters and the playground area.   Please utilize the Dog Park located adjacent to the shelters and playground at Lake Reba Park and always pick up after your pets.

· Do not feed the Geese and waterfowl, they spread disease.

· No Swimming in Lake Reba.  Fishing on boats with  trolling motors is acceptable.

· Parks Close At Dark.

* In Late April- Discs will be available for rental at Adventure Falls for the Disc Golf Course.  Rental will be $1 and a deposit of $10 will be required with a copy of a valid ID.  Rentals will be available from 12noon-9pm Daily.

DISC GOLF COURSE-

Open to the Public.
Located at Camp Catalpa Park.
NO CHARGE

There is no charge to play disc golf- just bring your own disc.  The course was constructed by the Richmond Disc Golf Club and was funded by the City Of Richmond Parks & Recreation Department. 

Discover the beauty of Camp Catalpa by walking this 18 hole/9 fairway course.  The first hole is located at the top of the hill next to the large shelter.  Follow the signs to the other fairways.  Disc golf is a game for all ages.   Come see this beautiful park in a whole new light. Click Here for a Map of the course.

VERB SUMMER SCORE CARD-  Do you have kids between ages 9-13?  This program is designed to keep these kids active in the summer time.  Kids will get points for every one hour of activity they do in the summer.  They will record their activity on a website and will be eligible for prize drawings.  Be on the lookout for more information regarding this program in the next coming months.  This program is sponsored by the Madison County Health Department in cooperation with EKU Physical Education Dept., Madison County Extension Office, Telford YMCA, Richmond Parks & Recreation, Berea Parks and Recreation, the Lexington/Fayette Health Department and several community sponsors.  This program has been very successful in Lexington and we look forward to an ACTIVE Summer. 8th Annual James McChesney Memorial Golf Classic

Strike Out Arthritis-  April 13 at Galaxy Bowling.  This fundraising event will help provide funds for the Handicap Accessible Playground to be located at Lake Reba Park.  Children who suffer from Rheumatoid Arthritis will greatly benefit from a playground that is accessible, in addition to parents and loved ones who suffer this painful disease.
